Our debate on mother-tongue based education continues : this week we suggest you read a first article by Finnish linguist Tove Skutnabb-Kangas, explaining clearly how important the language of schooling is in the learning process.

A possible step towards the recognition of Aboriginal peoples in Australia: the Head of Government has announced a referendum on amending the Constitution to formally recognise Aborigines as the country’s first inhabitants.
In its November 18th edition newspaper Les Nouvelles Calédoniennes has devoted an article to Sîshëë, a Kanak language spoken in New Caledonia by only a handful of people, and hence critically endangered.
