August 31, 2010: Submission deadline for entries to the Second International Conference on Language Documentation and Conservation (ICLDC), University of Hawaii, February 11-13, 2011.
The second edition of the International Conference on Language Documentation and Conservation will evolve around Strategies for Moving Forward, following on from last year’s conference on Supporting Small Languages Together.
The call to submissions is open until August 31, 2010, with feedback by September 30.
While applications are to be submitted in English, speakers are welcome to choose the language of their actual presentations. Presentations in indigenous languages are particularly encouraged.
Submissions may cover any topic related to linguistic research and documentation, such as:
– Fieldwork
– Interdisciplinary work in the field
– Ethical issues
– Development of a writing system
– Development of a grammatical system
– Lexicography
– Technology supporting documentation
– Data management
– Archiving issues
– Methods for evaluating linguistic vitality
– Language planning
– Sustaining, preserving and revitalizing specific languages
– Teaching and learning minority languages
– Training in documentation methods, beyond university
– Community initiatives to document and preserve their languages
– etc.
A special mention to three members of the Sorosoro Scientific Board, also members of the ICLDC: Colette Grinevald, from the DDL (Dynamique Du Language) laboratory, University of Lyon 2, Peter Austin, director of the Endangered Languages Academic Program (ELAP) of the University of London, and Claire Moyse-Faurie, research director at the CNRS-based LACITO laboratory (Langues et Civilisations à Traditions Orales).
The conference is also scheduling a discussion on film documentation, include a presentation by Sorosor Director Rozenn Milin.
The conference will take place on the University of Hawaii campus in Manoa, Hawaii.
