Languages

Our language description sheets are also adding up, with two new African languages from the Niger-Congo family carefully prepared for us by members of the CNRS-based LLACAN research lab:

• Françoise Ugochukwu brings us a factsheet on Igbo, spoken in Nigeria

• Michel Lafon describes Zulu, spoken in South Africa

Both of these sheets will be translated shortly.

Sorosoro pushes boudaries and has been granted a whole article this week in Spanish daily El Pais, featuring interviews with Director Rozenn Milin and linguist Colette Grinevald, member from our scientific board.

• Australian Aboriginal activist Lex Wotton sentenced to six years of emprisonment in 2008 for his role in the Palm Island riots is announced to be released today, June 18, 2010.

• And this outstandingly interesting article in the New York Times, passed on by French weekly Courrier International last week, on how missing languages are not always to be found where expected.
