Language and language family sheets

There’s a growing number of you sending us data on languages : Pierre Rudloff from Strasbourg University has sent us a factsheet on Ainu, an isolate language spoken in Japan. (Soon available in English)

And our collaborator Catherine Lynch gives us five new language family description sheets in English:

• the Torricelli languages (Papua-New Guinea)

• the Trans-New-Guinea languages (Papua-New Guinea)

• the Yuat languages (Papua-New Guinea)

• the East Bird’s Head languages (Papua-New Guinea)

• the Worrorran languages (Australia)

With the summer vacation kicking in soon, we thought this was the right time to reflect upon the impacts of mass tourism on indigenous populations, like the Jarawa people from the Andaman Islands, who find themselves directly threatened by tour operators organizing trips in their community with no concern for the possible consequences.
