Soro News of the week !
This week on Sorosoro’s website :
Planisphere
Sorosoro’s language planisphere has recently been updated ! We’ve added some languages of Europe that were missing, such as the oïl languages spoken in France (like Gallo or Poitevin-Saintongeais), as well as other languages we talked about in our most recent language sheets (like Kven or Reunionese Creole).
If you know of one or several endangered languages that are not on our planisphere, please let us know so we can add them !
Soropedia
Talking about the oïl languages, let’s go an meet one of them : Poitevin-Saintongeais.
Close to Gallo, both geographically and linguistically, the Poitevin-Saintongeais language encounters the same issues as all of its sister languages : no official status, aging speakers and the fact of being considered as a bastardized version of French.
This language also has a special feature that went against it in the past : it is made up of two main dialectal varieties than can be as similar as they are different from each other ! However, there are associations, media, musicians, storytellers, etc. who fight to save their “parlanjhe” as they call it !
Soroquizz
Where is Menik spoken ? Cameroon ? Senegal ? Gabon ?
Come and test your knowledge about the languages of the world on our Soroquizz, on the homepage of our website ! A lot of new questions have been added.
ABC book
Would you like to know how to say “anniversary” in Basque ? “To learn” it Kaqchikel ? “Universe” in Tchouktche ? Hundreds of translations of dozens of words are available in our big ABC book, in numerous languages of the world !
Do not hesitate to participate and to give us your own translations!
Contribution
Don’t forget that Sorosoro lives on thanks to the contributions of linguists, speakers of minority and endangered languages and anyone visiting our website and willing to share their knowledge !
You can contact us at contact@sorosoro.org or through the forms to creat language sheet or new translations for the ABC book.
You can also find Sorosoro on social medias : facebook et twitter !
