December 9, 2011: Batchelor Institute research position in indigenous languages application deadline, Australia
The Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Teritary Education is an institution geared towards Indigenous Australians, offering all types of educational programs as well as facilities and resources for research and study. BI is located in the Australian Northern Territories, in the town of Batchelor, 98kms south of Darwin.
One of the Institute’s main objectives is to provide education and training programs engaging students in the development of appropriate responses to issues of cultural survival, both at national and international scale.
Batchelor Institute revolves around two central principles:
– a ‘both ways’ philosophy bridging Indigenous Australian traditions and Western academic disciplines;
– through its work and courses, the Institute affirms the aspiration to self-determination and employment held by Indigenous Australians.
BI is seeking a senior research leader for a three year fixed term appointment, as part of a partnership between different Australian universities.
The position basically aims to develop research projects led by Indigenous researchers, and more specifically networked research in Indigenous languages, education and the arts.

– Indigenous creative arts.
A considerable publication record and/or other significant research outcomes are expected, as well as experience in building or managing a research team. The command of an Indigenous language is also required.
