October 21, 2011: National Cultural Policy discussion paper consulation deadline, Australia
The Australian government has recently launched quite an interesting initiative: after releasing a draft National Cultural Policy aiming to examine how the government should support arts and culture in the 21st century, it is now offering the population a chance to take a part in the elaboration of this policy.
The discussion paper, the outcome of a national consultation started in 2009, is available online. The document revolves around a variety of issues and goals, with Goal 1 stated as: to ensure that what the Government supports — and how this support is provided — reflects the diversity of a 21st century Australia, and protects and supports Indigenous culture.
The discussion paper makes important references to Indigenous issues – languages, culture, broadcasting, film, visual arts, etc. – including the National Languages Policy.
The National Cultural Policy discussion paper can be viewed and commented in two different ways:
– by responding to a short online survey
– by making personal detailed suggestions – submission guidelines
The good people of Australia have their say until October 21st!
