June 22-25, 2011: Amazigh Book Fair, Rabat, Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco National Library in Rabat home to four days of conferences on Amazigh (Berber) literature.
With all its dialectal variants the Amazigh language is mainly known to be an oral language. Until recently, script was essentially reserved to religious texts, and to a handful of researchers in the different countries where Berber languages are spoken.
The aim of the Amazigh Book Fair is to put forward the widely unknown richness of Amazigh literature, too confidential, and to have as many people as possible discover the profound humanity showing through this heritage.
Lectures will be held out by leading figures of Amazigh literature and research:
– Ahmed ASSID: Le livre Amazigh et historique (« Amazigh and historical literature »), June 22, 2011 – 6pm.
– Mikael PEYRON: La bataille de Tazizaout (« The battle of Tazizaout »), June 23, 2011 – 6pm.
– IRCAM: Anniversaire de la reconnaissance internationale de l’alphabet tifinagh par l’organisation internationale ISO-unicode (« Anniversary of the IOS-unicode international recognition of the Tifinagh alphabet »), June 24, 2011 – 6pm.
– Youssef BOKBOT : Racines historiques des imazighn au Maroc (« Historical roots of the Imazighn in Morocco »), June 25, 2011 – 6pm.
The event includes book signings by various authors:
Ahmed HADDACHI

And to end with, rare books of the National Library will be presented to the public.
