April 22-23, 2011: (Conference on the Endangered Languages and Cultures of Native America) CELCNA, Salk Lake City, USA
The Center for American Indian languages of the University of Utah will be holding its 7th annual conference devoted to American Indian language on April Friday 22 and Saturday 23.
The event shares two parallel schedulings over the two days: a workshop on “Teaching American Indian Languages to Beginning Level Learners” and a conference cycle on endangered languages across the world.
The workshop includes different sessions: ”Using Writing as a Tool” on Friday morning, followed by ”Immersion Teaching Demonstration in Omaha & Shoshoni” in the afternoon, and “Creating Immersion Based Lesson Plans: Materials Development” on Saturday morning.
Conferences will essentially evolve around languages of the American North although there will be some lectures on languages of Latin America, Africa (Congo) and Asia (Bangladesh). Subjects range from purely linguistic questions (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics) to sociolinguistic issues, historical linguistics, education and revitalization.
