April 20, 2011: Linguistic maintenance project proposal deadline at the Endangered Language Fund, USA
Each year, Connecticut-based ELF – Endangered Language Fund – provides grants for language maintenance projects to researchers, linguistic communities or institutions, of an average of $2,000 (up to $4,000) for a one-year period.
This year’s applicants have until April 20 to submit their proposals. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two, and the work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics. Application from all researchers and all research groups from all countries will be considered. Decisions will be delivered by the end of May 2011.
Since its creation in 1996, the ELF had supported various projects in over thirty countries. Among these projects, the creation of an indigenous radio in South Dakota, recordings of the last living historian in Shor language, Eastern Siberia, and the distribution of school aids for the teaching of endangered languages all over the world.
Applications must be submitted by email (preferably a PDF file) at: elf@endangeredlanguagefund.org
