April 15: Tucson Arizona Immersion A-Z workshop registration deadline
The Consortium for Indigenous Language Organizations (CILO) is organizing a three-day workshop entitled « Immersion A-Z: Essential Basics for Language Immersion Programs », to be held from June 29 to July 1st at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, immediately following the 32th American Indian Language Development Insitute (AILDI).
While in June the AILDI offers courses and workshops aiming to provide participants with the means to revitalize their languages through different teaching methods, the CILO workshops will concentrate more specifically on the learning of indigenous languages according to the immersion method.
The workshop provides hands-on experience on language immersion methods, the proven effective way of transmitting language knowledge from one generation to the next in a variety of contexts including at home, in the community (Master-Apprentice Program), at day care centers, at preschool and head start and at schools.
Participants will learn how to design and implement immersion teaching, create language activities, produce fun and useful materials, and assess the effectiveness of the language immersion program.
Registrations should be completed by April 15, 2011.
