Sorosoro Director Rozenn Milin puts forward the significant impact of the language used in children’s education on the quality of literacy and their learning proficiency. Please don’t go too far, we’d like to hear your views on the subject!
Sorosoro India
Seven months after a first journey canvassing in India, the Sorosoro foundation (Sorosoro Trust) comes to life on the subcontinent. The objective of Sorosoro India is to document the near hundred unscheduled languages of a country counting 22 official languages and possibly around a thousand more! Read

After weeks spent in Gabon with the Akele, we now return to Guatemala and the Kaqchikel community, with an introduction to numbers by José Alfredo Obdulio Perén Gabino. The discerning ear won’t help but notice how different the sound of Kaqchikel is from the other languages we have worked on so far…
Besides this week’s video, and still on Kaqchikel, speakers of English will find a newly subtitled interview of master of ceremony B’alam Tija telling us about the progressive decline of his language and culture.

Agenda
The Laboratoire d’Anthropologie Sociale and the GDRI “Anthropologie et histoire des arts” organize a symposium on anthropological restitution (“how and who for”), to be held on December 2nd and 3rd at the Musée du Quai Branly, Paris. The symposium will question the place and role occupied by researchers in their relation with the populations they work on, as well as the big issue of “what can be said, shown, and what cannot” to the general public.
