July 1-3, 2010: 10th Annual Conference of the Association for Portuguese and Spanish Lexically Based Creole Languages (ACBLPE) to be held on CNRS Campus, Villejuif, France
The ACBLPE International Conference is organized by the CNRS-based LLACAN lab (Langage, Langues et Cultures d’Afrique Noire) and the INALCO (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales). It will be held on the CNRS Campus from July 1 to 3, 2010, thanks to the support of the Latine Union, and of the Department of Cooperation and Cultural Action of the French Embassy in Cape Verde.
The central question of this 10th edition of the conference will be Ibero-Romance-based Creole languages, and will evolve around the following topics:
– Developing links and mutual understanding among the speakers of different Creole languages.
– Bilingual education, teaching of Creole languages.
– Creolization processes, and non-European variants of Spanish and Portuguese.
– Various research subjects approaching the Ibero-Romance-based Creole languages whether it be through morphology, grammar, history, sociolinguistics, etc…
Note the participation of Stéphane ROBERT, member of the Sorosoro Scientific Board, research director at the LLACAN lab, and Director of the CNRS Typology and Linguistic Universals Federation.
American linguist John Mc Whorter, who specialises in Creole languages, will also be present as a guest speaker and moderator of the final session.
The Conference will conclude with a round table on the teaching of Creole languages.
