Heaps of news on our website this week…
Videos
The Chinese in Africa? Yes, the presence of China in Africa is growing every day and incidentally appears to be raising some issues for local populations. This week Sorosoro presents the improvised footage of an interview with Théodosie, member of the Akele community living in the region of Lambarene, Gabon. She tells us about her views on Chinafrica.
Language description sheets
Here we go again. Thanks to the collaboration of linguists from the LLACAN research lab, Sorosoro is adding new sheets on 4 different languages: three in French on the African continent, one in English on the Antilles Islands:
– In French: two Portuguese-based Creoles, Cape Verdean and Casamance Creole (Southern Senegal), and a Niger-Congo language, Koalib, spoken in the Nuba mountains of Sudan.
– In English: another Portuguese-based Creole, Papiamentu, spoken in the Netherlands Antilles.
Sorosoro News
This week Rozenn Milin and Sabrina Pourchasse were meeting linguists and computer scientists of the Sénélangues project to assess the filming sessions conducted last March on two languages from Senegal (Baynunk and Menik). Peeps available online!
Agenda
Worth your time this week, providing you’re in the right place: the screening of a documentary filmed by young Aborigines of the Ngarrindjeri native community (Australia) on the consequences of a severe drought threatening their means of support, cultures and language.
There’s also a new word – MOTHER – in our A to Z for you to translate in your own language, wherever you are. And as always, new questions added to our Soroquiz for you to tackle on our homepage!
Meanwhile, take care and please stay tuned for more coming up very soon.
