Yet another stop in Gabon!

Back in the Akele community with an interview granted by Jean Kédine who tells us about the changes undergone by the model of traditional marriage in his society. This video is the first of a ‘summer series’ cycle devoted to marriage and its various side issues, please keep an eye open because there’s a lot more to come!

Language description sheets

The English version of Sorosoro.org welcomes an unpublished poem in Papiamentu (Portuguese-based Creole spoken in the Netherlands Antilles and on the island of Aruba) entitled Soño liber (2009), by Lucille Berry-Haseth.

The French will need just a little more patience for the Papiamentu sheet and poem to be translated. Just a little more patience, that is.

America in the center of our agenda this week:

– a conference on the safeguard and revitalization of languages in Vancouver, Canada, June 5 and 6, 2010.

– the first meeting of the CTLDC (Consortium on Training in Language Documentation and Conservation), June 19 and 10 in Eugene, Oregon USA.

– the second InField workshops on the documentation, protection and revitalization of languages, from June 21 to July 30 at the University of Oregon USA.

– and the NILI (Northwest Native American Languages) sets up two events alongside the InField workshops: the Summer Institute 13^th edition (from June 21 to July 2) with courses devoted to Amerindian languages of the North-West, and the 17^th SILS (Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium) from June 25 to 27, 2010.
