February 2-5, 2011: 29th Expolangues fair in Paris (Porte de Versailles)
Created in order to promote learning and diffusion of languages and defend multilingualism, the Expolangues fair is a unique event: it brings together every year, at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, all the players in the language market, professionals and general public alike. Last year it attracted more than 20.000 visitors. This 29th edition (February 2-5) will honour Arabic as « a language without borders », and no less than 30 countries and 80 languages will be represented.
The programme for these four days full of meetings and exchanges will include 200 exhibitors (publishers, language schools, language study holidays, study programmes abroad, translation, interpretation, multimedia…) and about a hundred talks and activities.
The fair will also provide two special rooms dedicated to the learning of foreign languages, supervised by professors from cultural centres and institutes. One will have a chance to gain knowledge in those languages which attract more and more european students every year (especially chinese and arabic), but also in less widespread ones such as Welsh, Tahitian, Catalan or even Tibetan! A beautiful initiative, which contributes to turning this fair into an significant event for multilingualism.
