May 22, 2010 : InField summer workshops application deadline (Institute of Field Linguistics and Language Documentation), Oregon USA.
For the second year in a row, the InField (Institute of Field Linguistics and Language Documentation) is organizing intensive training courses this summer at the university of Oregon. The courses will be held from June 22 to July 30.
The first two weeks consist in workshops as introductions to :
- language documentation (models, principles, tools…)
- language revitalization (creation of educational aids, filing methods…)
- ethics and activism in language documentation (language community partnerships and respectful linguistic research, life in the field…)
- technologies regarding data recording and filing, software (Toolbox, ELAN, Flex)
- collecting methods as such (transcription, lexicography, phonetics…)
… followed by a Laboratory Week, as an opportunity for participants to work on their own projects with the assistance and advice of InField staff.
And to end with, a four-week intensive apprenticeship in language documentation with native speakers of Northern Paiute (Uto-Aztecan language) and Uyghur (Turkic family), applying the analytic and data management techniques of the workshops
