November 11 – 14, 2009: ELIIP workshop (Endangered Languages Information and Infrastructure Program)
Sorosoro director Rozenn Milin was in Salt Lake City from November 11th to 14th as part of the ELIIP workshop organized jointly by North-American universities and research institutes in the aim of collecting and harmonizing available data on endangered languages.
A number of researchers work on the description and documentation of these languages throughout the world, and the material produced by theses researches is conveyed by various types of institutions. Time undeniably warps data as it evolves continuously, and today many specialists believe this material should be updated more regularly, and brought to the public more accurately. Around fifty linguists from all over the planet along with representatives from international scale institutions were there for three days working on this particular issue.
The ELIIP workshop was also a great opportunity for Sorosoro to be heard of, especially within Anglophone sphere. The assistance was seduced by the presentation of our website, now available in English, and our videos proved the originality of our approach and methods.
All participants acknowledged the quality of the films, as well as our will to convey accurate information to the public. Rendezvous at the next workshop in 2010…
