Oceania
Marie-Adèle Jorédié tells how were founded the schools in Xârâcùù, one of the Kanak languages of New Caledonia.
Oceania is a paradise for linguists: Papua New Guinea and Indonesia alone boast more than 1500 languages! Vanuatu, a tiny state composed of a string of islands, includes one that has the highest linguistic density in the world: a hundred languages for 250 000 inhabitants!
Here you will find a set of documents relating to these languages of Oceania: some videos from our field shoots in New Caledonia (Xârâcùù language), articles written by linguists and teachers, and description sheets of the languages and language families of the region.
