Language families in Europe
The European continent is “dominated” by the family of Indo-European languages, to which belong French, English, Spanish, as well as Russian, Farsi, or Hindi and Nepali, but also endangered languages such as Breton, Yiddish, Sorbian, kachoubian etc.
The Indo-European family is the largest family in the world in terms of number of speakers: it is spoken by nearly 3 billion across the six continents.
Some other distinct families are also present in Europe: Uralic languages (including Finnish and Hungarian), the three Caucasian language families, and Basque which stands alone with no link with any other known language.
