September 25, 2011: World languages forum, Lyon, France
The second edition of the Forum des Langues du Monde (“World languages forum”) will be held in Lyon as part of the European Day of Languages.
The organisers intend to bring forward three main principles:
– the freedom for anyone to speak their own language
– equality between all languages
– fraternity between the languages spoken on the same territory.
The program includes a “Language Fair“, where associations and the speakers of various languages will be hosting stands with songs, dance, calligraphy workshops, poetic marathons, introduction to the world’s languages, etc.
Discussion sessions will also be held all afternoon with several guests including:
– Claude Sicre, singer and troubadour of the Occitan band Fabulous Troubadors
– Marcel Courtiade, linguist specialized in the language and culture of the Romani
– Colette Grinevald, linguist at the DDL/CNRS lab and Sorosoro Scientific Board member.
The organisers remind that the languages already represented at the Forum are Albanian, German, Amariq, English, Modern Standard Arabic, Palestinian Arabic, Aramaic, Kabylie Berber, Tuareg Berber (Tamasheq), Breton, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Spanish, Esperanto, Fon, French, Franco-Provençal, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, sign language, Maltese, Dutch, Occitan, Fula, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Romani, Russian, Slovenian, Czech, Turkish… quite a program!
