March 28, 2011: Application deadline for grants from the Endangered Language Documentation Programme, UK
Based at the London University SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project has been a major player in the field of endangered language documentation ever since its creation in 2002. It evolves around three main programmes:
– the Academic Programme (ELAP), teaching postgraduate courses in language documentation and description, and field linguistics, directed by Peter Austin, member of the Sorosoro scientific board;
– the Documentation Programme (ELDP), providing research grants to document the world’s most endangered languages;
– the Archiving Programme (ELAR), collecting and preserving data on endangered languages;
In 9 years of existence, the ELDP has supported over 200 teams of field researchers. Four different kinds of grants are offered:
– small grants up to 10,000 GBP
– individual graduate studentships for PhD study
– individual postdoctoral fellowships for postdoctoral study
