November 12-16 2010 : CTLDC (Consortium on Training in Language Documentation and Conservation) symposium and meeting, Tokyo, Japan.
Created in 2009 by two linguists known for their commitment to the revitalization of endangered languages, Carol Genetti, from the University of California, and Margret Florey, from Australia, the CTLDC held, as we had then announced, its first great meeting this year on June 19th and 20th.
This month the CTLDC will hold a public symposium in Tokyo (November 12th and 13th), followed by a two-day meeting of CTLDC planning group members from the Asia-Pacific region (November 15th and 16th).
The symposium’s theme will be « Models for Capacity Development in Language Documentation and Conservation ». Presentations will focus on different types of training – grassroots / community-based training, university programs, summer institutes, intensive workshops etc. – and be punctuated with discussions and debates.
Invited participants include scholars, activists, NGO and UNESCO representatives, working mostly in Asia and the Pacific (Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, China, New Zealand, Australia, Japan), among which Ganesh Devy, Sorosoro India Council member, and Rozenn Milin, who will discuss Sorosoro’s work.

The event will be hosted at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), Room 303.
