November 19, 2010: Alter Eco Evening, « Listening to Amazonian Amerindians », Paris, France
As the Year of Biodiversity comes to a close, fair trade company Alter Eco is to hold an evening devoted to the Amazon.
Being committed to the preservation of the amazonian biodiversity as it is, Alter Eco considers that this campaign goes hand in hand with supporting the amerindian peoples living in it. The latter are indeed the primary victims of deforestation and their territories are coveted by petroleum, forest and mining companies.
The reception on november 19th will thus provide amerindian representatives with the opportunity to present various actions undertaken to preserve their environment and culture (promoting traditional cultures, reforestation project, creating economic activities, reinforcing bonds between peoples with common linguistic roots…).
It will also offer attendants a chance to converse with guests such as Matsini from the Yawanawa community, Haru from the Kuntanawa community (Brazil), and Manuel Tuanama Fasabi from the Kechua community in Anaq Shamboyacu (Peru).
