Se cuentan alrededor de 1 mill\u00f3n de hablantes de tamasheq.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>As\u00ed como el cabilio, el chaoui o el rife\u00f1o, el tamasheq es de hecho una de las variantes del berebere (o tamazight), un grupo de lenguas presentes en toda \u00c1frica del Norte (Marruecos, Argelia, T\u00fanez, Libia, Egipto, N\u00edger, Mauritania, Mal\u00ed y  Burkina-Faso), sin contar una importante di\u00e1spora en Europa y en Am\u00e9rica. En total, se estima que son m\u00e1s de 45 millones de hablantes de berebere.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Una de las particularidades de la lengua berebere es su escritura. Un alfabeto, llamado tifinagh, existe desde el primer milenio antes de la era cristiana, y a pesar de su casi desaparici\u00f3n al norte d\u00f3nde ha sido suplantado por los alfabetos latinos y \u00e1rabes, jam\u00e1s ha dejado de ser utilizado por los tuareg. En la segunda mitad del siglo XX, una versi\u00f3n moderna, primero lanzada por la Academia Berebere, luego modificada por ling\u00fcistas para hacer un est\u00e1ndar aplicable a todos los hablas, es en la actualidad ampliamente utilizada, al norte, e incluso oficializada en Marruecos a partir de 2001.
