El baynunk es hablado al sur de <strong>Senegal<\/strong>, en <strong>Casamance<\/strong>, as\u00ed como en los pa\u00edses vecinos <strong>Gambia <\/strong>y <strong>Guinea Bissaues<\/strong>,\u00a0 y pertenece a la gran <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/niger-congo-languages\">familia N\u00edger-Congo<\/a><\/strong> (rama lengua Atl\u00e1ntico Norte grupo Tenda-nyun).<br \/>\nEn 2006, el sitio ethnologue.com cens\u00f3 cerca de 6200 locutores, lo que lo convierte en una \u00ablengua en peligro \u00bb seg\u00fan los criterios de la Unesco. El baynunk forma parte de las 17 lenguas que gozan del programa de codificaci\u00f3n y de reconocimiento de las lenguas minoritarias iniciado en Senegal desde los a\u00f1os 1970.
