It is mainly situated in the Nyanga and Ngouni\u00e9 regions (Southwest <strong>Gabon<\/strong>) and along the main route which connects Mouila to Libreville. Historically, the <strong>Punu <\/strong>people occupied an area\u00a0 south of where they live today. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 5px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 10px; line-height: 1.6; text-align: justify; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19px;\"><strong>Punu<\/strong> is one of the main <strong>languages <\/strong>of <strong>Gabon <\/strong>with more than 100,000 speakers. This <strong>language<\/strong>, which belongs to the <strong>Bantu<\/strong> family of <strong>languages<\/strong>, is linguistically close to its neighbouring<strong> languages <\/strong>: Lumbu, Eshira, Sangu, Vungu, Varama and Ngove. Speakers of these <strong>languages<\/strong> can understand each other almost completely. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 5px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 10px; line-height: 1.6; text-align: justify; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19px;\">The movement of the <strong>Punu<\/strong> tribe to urban areas (in particular to Libreville and Port Gentil) is leading to the rapid loss of traditions, especially <strong>oral traditions<\/strong>.
