Colloquium at the Senate on November 30th, 2016<\/span><\/h5>\n

A delegation of six French Guianian first nation peoples were represented at a colloquium at the Senate in Paris: Kali’na<\/strong>, Lokorno<\/strong> (Arawaka), Paykwene<\/strong>, Teko<\/strong>, Way\u00e3pi<\/strong> and Wayana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The November 30th colloquium organized by senator Aline Archimbaud<\/strong> focused on evaluating the situation since the 2015 release of a parliamentary report<\/a> on the suicide rates of young Amerindians in French Guiana, which she co-drafted.<\/p>\n

The Overseas Minister opened the meeting with new promises; however, representatives of the State did not seem to have much more time than a few minutes to grasp what the delegation had to say<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not even time to screen the music video<\/a> Teko Makan<\/strong><\/em> (“No Suicide”) directed by Christophe Pierre<\/strong>, also known as Yanuwana, about the suicide of young French Guianian Amerindians. Presented as an introduction to the testimonies, the video made a powerful impact on all present at the Senate.<\/p>\n
