{"id":60619,"date":"2011-11-26T00:01:31","date_gmt":"2011-11-25T23:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/?p=60619"},"modified":"2025-10-21T22:12:49","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T20:12:49","slug":"november-5-26-2011-30th-jean-rouch-international-film-festival-france-and-niger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/2011\/11\/november-5-26-2011-30th-jean-rouch-international-film-festival-france-and-niger\/","title":{"rendered":"<bold>November 5-26, 2011<\/bold>: 30th Jean Rouch International Film Festival, France and Niger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ethnologist and filmmaker <strong>Jean Rouch<\/strong>, who died in 2004, is one of the theorists and founders of <strong>visual anthropology<\/strong>: a follower of direct cinema, he is most widely known for his ethnographical films on African peoples such as the Dogon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In March 1982 he created the very first Bilan du Film Ethnographique at the Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Homme, Paris, a film festival entirely dedicated to anthropological film, between culture and science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The festival has screened over 1,300 films from all over the world since then, reflecting the social and cultural evolution of human society, and the richness of its diversity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year, the festival \u2013 known as the <strong>Festival International Jean Rouch<\/strong> since 2008 \u2013 highlights its 30th anniversary by organizing one-off events in different venues in Paris, in other parts of France, and abroad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The program takes place in different times and places mainly in and around Paris:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<strong> 5 master classes<\/strong> on the evolution of ethnological documentary film; November 5 and 6 opening the festival, at the Biblioth\u00e8que Nationale de France (BNF)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<strong> the international competition<\/strong> with 30 films worldwide to eventually share 5 awards, including the Nanook &#8211; Jean Rouch Grand Prize; November 7 to 12 at Maison des Cultures du Monde<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<strong> the <em>Rencontres Narratives Singuli\u00e8res<\/em> <\/strong>(&#8220;Peculiar Narrative Encounters&#8221;), composed of 20 films selected for the new forms of narration they provide; November 14 and 15 at Issy-les Moulineaux<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; <strong>a &#8220;30 years, 30 films&#8221; retrospective<\/strong>, an all-time favorites screening of 30 films among the 222 awarded along the past 30 years; November 17 to 24 at Maison des Cultures du Monde<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; <strong>CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) special sessions<\/strong>: 10 films followed by discussion with the authors and directors; November 21 to 23 at the CNRS headquarters<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; <strong>the closing ceremony<\/strong>, on November 25 at the SCAM (&#8220;Civil Society of Multimedia Authors&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; <strong>screenings of the awarded films<\/strong> on November 25 and 26 at the Museum National d\u2019Histoire Naturelle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An off-site version of the festival will also take place in <strong>Toulouse<\/strong> (October 27 to December 4), <strong>Montpellier<\/strong> (January 6 to 8, 2012), as well as in <strong>Niamey, Niger<\/strong> (December 10 to 15).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Highlights of these three weeks of celebration, recommendations among the hundred films scheduled on the occasion&#8230;
