The Institute plays a critical role in training and cross-generational transmission through partnerships with schools, educators, and the indigenous communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>32nd Summer Institute<\/strong> will be held at the University of Arizona over 4 weeks, from June 6 to July 1st, around the theme &#8220;<strong>Bridging Generations of Indigenous Community Languages and Traditions&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following classes will be taught:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Linguistics, Language and Culture<\/strong>&#8221; will provide an introduction to Native American linguistics and language families. It will survey issues of language policy and identity, and also identifies effective methods for revitalization and documentation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Tohono O&#8217;odham Immersion<\/strong>&#8221; will consist in experiencing the language through interactive conversation as well as listening, reading and writing exercises based on various real-life situations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Indigenous Language Policy &amp; Politics<\/strong>&#8221; will examine language revitalization efforts within political and ideological contexts. It will also analyze the contradictions between state, federal, and tribal policies, as well as individual and collective means to defend linguistic and cultural interests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Language and Technology for Language Revitalization<\/strong>&#8221; is geared towards beginners who\u2019ll learn how to combine different tools such as websites, blogs, cell phones, video\/audio and computer software to document their own languages, create their own materials, and share content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong>Language Immersion for Native American Languages<\/strong>&#8221; will provide models and strategies for teaching in immersion settings.
