Jean-F\u00e9lix Ayenouet, one of the last great Mpongwe storytellers of Gabon, in the outskirts of Libreville, told us the story of Ogoula and Ilomb\u00e8. This tale stages some of the \u00ab usual characters \u00bb of the Mpongwe oral tradition: Ogoula, Ilomb\u00e8, Mas\u00e9ri, Ranyamby\u00e8, Es\u00e9r\u00e8ngila\u2026<\/p>\n

Linguist Patrick Mouguiama-Daouda, who made this film possible, also provided us with a few keys to understand who these characters are. You may find this introduction here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the two first episodes, Ogoula, a poor young man, son of Mas\u00e9ri, had gone hunting a little further than usual. Near the river, he met Ilomb\u00e8, daughter of the cruel and bloodthirsty king Ranyamby\u00e8, and fell in love with her. Ilomb\u00e8 brought him back to her village where he remained hidden for a while, but as the threat of being discovered grew closer, he finally decided to leave.<\/p>\n

Later turned into a great king of the plain, he returns to the village and Ranyamby\u00e8 gives him his daughter. But will the plot remain unveiled?<\/p>\n
