Last week we presented the first part of a tale recorded in the Mpongwe<\/strong> community, on the outskirts of Libreville, Gabon<\/strong>: the tale of Ogoula and Ilomb\u00e8.<\/p>\n

Jean-F\u00e9lix Ayenouet<\/strong>, one of the last great storytellers of the region, told us this story staging some of the \u00ab usual characters \u00bb of the Mpongwe oral tradition: Ogoula, Ilomb\u00e8, Ranyamby\u00e8, Es\u00e9r\u00e8ngila and a few others\u2026<\/p>\n

Linguist Patrick Mouguiama-Daouda<\/strong>, who has made this film possible, provided us with a few keys to understand who these characters are. You\u2019ll find this introduction here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In this first part we met the main character of the story, Ogoula, a poor young man, son of Mas\u00e9ri. Near the river, Ogoula met Ilomb\u00e8, daughter of the cruel and bloodthirsty king Ranyamby\u00e8, and fell in love with her. Ilomb\u00e8 brought him back with her to her village where he is now hiding\u2026 will the lovers eventually be able to be together?<\/p>\n
