The reputation of the French being somewhat inconstant when it comes to learning languages is no secret. One might even remember a few years back when a Minister of Education referred to teachers as\u2026 mammoths!<\/p>\n

With a clear hint to mammoth detractors, the \u00ab Maison d\u2019Europe et d\u2019Orient<\/em> \u00bb is organizing a discussion on the space given to languages at school<\/strong>, on September 26, within the Week of foreign cultures<\/strong> held in Paris from September 24 to October 3, 2010.<\/p>\n

\n

The discussion will focus on foreign languages and the way they\u2019re being taught in the French education system. Virginie Symaniec, expert on cultural and linguistic issues in Belarus, has invites eminent figures of the language teaching sphere, among which Alain Wallon<\/strong>, responsible for linguistic matters at the European Commission, and Christian Tremblay<\/strong>, President of the European Observatory for Multilingualism.<\/p>\n

The chances are this discussion will show that the difficulty of learning languages is not inevitable\u2026 and that efficient methods do exist to spread multilingualism: more than ever, a rich objective to fulfill in a globalized world.<\/p>\n
