September 12-24, 2010<\/strong>: <\/strong>The 4th \u00ab Festival des Arts M\u00e9lan\u00e9siens \u00bb<\/a><\/strong> takes place in New Caledonia this year. A great opportunity to shed some light on this year\u2019s five guests (Fidji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and New Caledonia) which in spite of their relatively small size, bear close to 1000 languages out the ca. 6000 spoken over the planet.<\/p>\n

September 21-22, 2010<\/strong>: The Kanak Language Academy holds a symposium on Melanesian languages<\/strong><\/a> in Noum\u00e9a, within the ongoing festival devoted to the arts of Melanesia.<\/p>\n

September 26, 2010<\/strong>: The schedule of the 8th \u00ab Forum de Lib\u00e9ration \u00bb<\/strong><\/a>, curated by the French daily paper Lib\u00e9ration<\/em> and held in Lyon, France, includes a whole session devoted to endangered languages<\/strong>. Linguist and member of the Sorosoro scientific board Colette Grinevald will be speaking on the \u201csustainability\u201d of languages.<\/p>\n
