It belongs to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/niger-congo-languages\">Niger-Congo language family<\/a> (North Atlantic branch). The language counts around 6 000 speakers and is considered endangered by the UNESCO.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sorosoro sent a filming crew to Senegal in April and March 2010, as part of our collaboration with the <em>S\u00e9n\u00e9langues<\/em> project launched by the CNRS based <a href=\"http:\/\/llacan.vjf.cnrs.fr\/\">LLACAN<\/a> lab dedicated to \u00ab\u00a0Speech, languages and cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sokhna Bao-Diop, Ph.D student in linguistics and member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddl.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr\/senelangues\/index.asp\"><em>S\u00e9n\u00e9langues<\/em> project<\/a>, was on the spot with out filming crew. She gives us here a full presentation of the Baynunk language.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So we\u2019re back on the road to Casamance, with the fresh memories of not-so-relaxing filming sessions (the region is the scene of regular tensions with the local rebels), yet the amazing images we got in return were well worth the aventure.
