The <strong>meaning<\/strong> and <strong>practice <\/strong>of these ceremonies also disappear as the <strong>language declines<\/strong>, which is why putting them into film is all the more precious.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Discover them here, with comments and explanations in local language by either anthropologist or officiants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Rites and ceremonies in Gabon<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Linguists believe there are around <strong>50 languages and dialects<\/strong> spoken in <strong>Gabon<\/strong>, which has a population of approximately 1,5 million. Most of these languages are understudied and threatened with extinction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2009, Sorosoro filmed in 4 Bantu language communities: the <strong>Benga<\/strong>, the <strong>Mpongwe<\/strong>, the <strong>Akele<\/strong> (Lake variant), and the <strong>Punu <\/strong>(or Bapunu).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rites et ceremonies with the Punu<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/punu\"><strong>Punu<\/strong><\/a> is the <strong>language<\/strong> of the Bapunu, second largest ethnic group in <strong>Gabon<\/strong> in terms of population. It\u2019s a <strong>Bantu language<\/strong>, spoken in the Tchibanga area. The increasingly important movement of Bapunu people towards larger urban areas is causing a gradual <strong>loss <\/strong>of their <strong>language<\/strong> and <strong>cultural <\/strong>knowledge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/videos-in-punu-language-gabon\" target=\"_blank\">Watch all the videos in Punu<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Mukuji Rite<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px 5px 7px 10px; text-align: justify;\">The Mukuji is a celebratory dance which is performed, for example, in the event of the birth of twins. It is becoming increasingly popular and can be performed on days of national celebration or at political demonstrations.
