Most of these languages are understudied and threatened with extinction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2009, Sorosoro filmed in 4 Bantu language communities: the <strong>Benga<\/strong>, the <strong>Mpongwe<\/strong>, the <strong>Akele<\/strong> (Lake variant), and the <strong>Punu<\/strong> (or Bapunu).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Presentation on the Akele language by the linguist Jean-Marie Hombert<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Akele<\/strong> is the <strong>language<\/strong> of the <strong>Akele <\/strong>people from <strong>Gabon<\/strong>. It\u2019s a <strong>Bantu language<\/strong>, whose speakers are scattered around various parts the country. Nowadays there could be less than fifty speakers of Mutumbudie left. It\u2019s a <strong>Bantu language<\/strong>, spoken in the Tchibanga area. Despite accounts of a promising demography, <strong>Kaqchikel <\/strong>lacks diffusion among the young generations and faces serious <strong>decline<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a style=\"color: #58585a; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"..\/en\/videos-in-kaqchikel\" target=\"_blank\">Watch all the videos in Kaqchikel<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019d like you to hear <strong>linguist<\/strong> Nikte Sis Iboy who was there with us. Juventino here presents <strong>Tektiteko<\/strong>: one of the <strong>Mayan languages<\/strong> among the most threatened in <strong>Guatemala<\/strong>. It belongs to the <a href=\"..\/en\/niger-congo-languages\">Niger-Congo language family<\/a> (North Atlantic branch). Sokhna Bao-Diop, Ph.D student in linguistics and member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddl.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr\/senelangues\/index.asp\"><em>S\u00e9n\u00e9langues<\/em> project<\/a>, was on the spot with out filming crew. There are around one million speakers of Tamasheq. As are Kabyle, Shawia, or Rifian, Tamasheq is actually a <strong>variant of Berber (or Tamazight)<\/strong>, a group of languages found in the entire part of North Africa (Marocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Niger, Mauritania, Mali, and Burkina Faso), not to mention a large diaspora in Europe and America.
