These meetings were all held in Paris, all with speeches by prestigious guests, presentations by prominent linguists and anthropologists and film screenings.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 1st conference<\/strong> was held in June 2008 at the Quai Branly Museum, to mark the launching of the program. Among the keynote speakers were <strong>Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Peace Prize in 2002<\/strong>, and writer <strong>Erik Orsenna, Goncourt Prize and member of the French Academy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/en\/2009\/06\/the-1st-sorosoro-conference-on-june-9th-2008\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-65152\" style=\"padding-right: 20px;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/erik_orsenna_rencontre.jpg\" alt=\"erik_orsenna-conference\" width=\"248\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a><a href=\"\/en\/2009\/06\/the-1st-sorosoro-conference-on-june-9th-2008\/\"><strong>The 1st Sorosoro conference on June 9th, 2008<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 2nd conference<\/strong>, in October 2009, also at the Quai Branly Museum, was centered on the launch of Sorosoro\u2019s website. The speakers were, among others, <strong>leading linguists Claude Hag\u00e8ge<\/strong> and <strong>Colette Grinevald<\/strong>, also President of the Scientific board of Sorosoro.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/en\/2010\/01\/progress-readout-at-the-musee-du-quai-branly-on-october-6th-2009-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-65153\" style=\"padding-right: 20px;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/colette-conference.jpg\" alt=\"colette-conference\" width=\"248\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a><a href=\"\/en\/2010\/01\/progress-readout-at-the-musee-du-quai-branly-on-october-6th-2009-2\/\"><strong>The 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Sorosoro conference on October 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 2009<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 3rd conference<\/strong>, in December 2011, took place at the \u201cMaison des cultures du monde\u201d (House of the world\u2019s cultures) in Paris, and it was mainly devoted to India, a country with about 860 languages (out of the 6,000 to 7,000 languages spoken in the world).
