Dialects<\/strong>: According to Ethnologue<\/em>: \u201cReports indicate that Djamindjung and Ngaliwuru are so close as to be one language; only some older adults can distinguish the difference.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Classification<\/strong>: Mindi languages<\/a><\/p>\n

Area<\/strong>: Australia, Northern Territory.<\/p>\n

Formerly between the Fitzmaurice and Victoria Rivers (Cleverly 1968:1). It was said that Djamindjung went to Bradshaws Run and the north side of the Victoria River to its mouth (Akerman in Sutton 1995:112).<\/p>\n

Number of speakers<\/strong>: The 2005 National Indigenous Languages Survey Report counted 15 speakers of Jaminjung.<\/p>\n

Schultze-Berndt, (2000) gave an estimate of 50-150 speakers.<\/p>\n

Language vitality & transmission<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

According to UNESCO\u2019s criteria, Jaminjung is a \u201cseverely endangered language\u201d.<\/p>\n

Schultze-Berndt (2000) noted a recent growth of the speakers\u2019 number.<\/p>\n

No monolingual speaker.<\/p>\n
