(Tindale, 1974)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Number of speakers<\/strong>: The 2005 National Indigenous Languages Survey Report gave an estimate of 40 speakers (probably not counting Baanby, for which the 2005 NILS counted 5 speakers).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Language vitality &amp; transmission<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gumbaynggir  is on the brink of extinction. Gumbaynggir  is a \u201ccritically endangered\u201d language according to UNESCO\u2019s criteria and NILS considers that it is \u201cno longer fully spoken\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Gumbaynggir language is taught at several schools and pre-schools.
