{"id":39304,"date":"2011-01-28T17:25:44","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T16:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/?page_id=39304"},"modified":"2011-02-09T04:53:02","modified_gmt":"2011-02-09T03:53:02","slug":"ngaanyatjarra","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/ngaanyatjarra\/","title":{"rendered":"Ngaanyatjarra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Data collected by Austlang<\/em><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Data on the Ngaanyatjarra language<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>Alternatives names<\/strong>: Nganadjara, Ngaanjatjarra, Ngaanyatjara, Nyanganyatjara, Ngadadjara.<\/p>\n<p>For a full list of alternative names and spelling, see <a href=\"http:\/\/austlang.aiatsis.gov.au\/main.php\" target=\"_blank\">Austlang<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classification<\/strong>:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/macro-pama-nyungan-languages\"> Macro-Pama-Nyungan<\/a>, South-west, Wati languages<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Pitjantjatjara belongs to the Western Desert dialect continuum, it is close to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/pitjantjatjara\">Pitjantjatjara<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Area<\/strong>: Australia, Western Australias.<\/p>\n<p>In the times before the establishment of the Warburton Mission, Ngaanyatjarra was spoken around the area of present-day Warburton and perhaps as far east as Jamieson Range (Glass &amp; Hackett 2003:1).<\/p>\n<p>At Warburton Ranges, east to Fort Welcome, Blackstone Ranges, Murray Range, and Mount Hinckley; their southeasternmost water being Ero:tjo, just south of Wangalina; northeastward to Kudjuntari in the Schwerin Mural Crescent Range; at [&#8216;Julia] (Giles) in the Rawlinson Ranges. North to Hopkins Lake and Carnegie Range and beyond Christopher Lake; west to Tekateka and Jalara and about Alfred Marie Ranges (Tindale 1974 for Ngadadjara).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of speakers<\/strong>: The 2005 National Indigenous Languages Survey Report estimated approximately 700  speakers of  Ngaanyatjarra, whereas the 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census counted 1000 speakers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language vitality &amp; transmission<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/austlang.aiatsis.gov.au\/main.php\" target=\"_blank\">Austlang<\/a> considers Ngaanyatjarra to be \u201ccritically endangered\u201d (grade 1)<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Bibliography<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Glass, Amee. 1970.
