Distinctions are sometimes made between Central Arrernte, Western Arrernte, Southern Arrernte, and Eastern Arrernte, but, following Austlang we will regroup them in a large Arrernte ensemble.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The whole Arandic group, comprising also Alyawarr , Anmatyerre, Antekerrepenh, Ayerrerenge and Akarre, is sometimes considered as a bigger dialect cluster.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their status as separate languages or dialects remains unclear.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Area<\/strong>: Australia, Northern Territory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Main communities where Eastern and Central Arrernte are spoken are Alcoota (Alkwerte), Harts Range (Artetyerre), Bonya (Uthipe Atherre), Santa Teresa (Ltyentye Apurte), Amoonguna (Imengkwerne), and Alice Springs (Mparntwe) (Green 1994:2).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Number of speakers<\/strong>: The 2005 National Indigenous Languages Survey Report estimated approximately 2000  speakers of Arrernte, whereas the 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census counted 2835 speakers<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Language vitality &amp; transmission<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to austlang Arrernte is a \u201cstrong\/safe\u201d language whereas Unesco considers Arrernte to be \u201cvulnerable\u201d. It is one of the strongest Australian indigenous languages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Instruction<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Arrernte in Schools (AIS) program teaches Arrernte in primary and secondary schools throughout Alice Springs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Sources &amp; Bibliography<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Green, Jenny 2005.
