At this point it is difficult to determine whether they constitute a group of Akele dialects or Akele languages, as defined by Guthrie<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Area: <\/strong>Gabon, along the Ngouni\u00e9 and Ogoou\u00e9 rivers, and in Moyen-Ogoou\u00e9 lake region, near Lambar\u00e9n\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Number of speakers: <\/strong>9320 according to <em>Ethnologue.com<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Note: Le figures provided by Ethnologue.com probably correspond to the ethnic group population. The number of actual speakers is probably lower. However we do not have other estimations at this point.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lake variant of Akele, Mutumbudie (or M\u00e9tombolo) is only spoken by around 50 people and is no longer transmitted, according to linguist Jean-Marie Hombert.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Language status: <\/strong>No Language status. Language of communication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Vitality and transmission: <\/strong>No precise data on the vitality of Akele, but linguists and Akele speakers consider it under serious threat.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Media \/ Literature \/ diffusion: <\/strong>No literature in Akele\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sorosoro held a filming session in June 2009 on the Lake Akele language, Mutumbudie. This is probably the first recordings of Mutumbudie ever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h5>Videos in Akele on Sorosoro.org<\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorosoro.org\/en\/videos-in-akele-language-gabon\">See videos in Akele (lake region)<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ethnographic observations:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Where do the lake dwelling Akele come from?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mutumbudie, the language spoken by the Lake Akele, belongs to the most scattered linguistic group over Gabon. Languages of the same group are found in the north-east of the country (Makokou area), in the south-east (Franceville area), and in the west (near Lambar\u00e9n\u00e9).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A study conducted by Sorosoro in May and June 2009 showed that the Lake Akele did not use the river to settle on their current territory, and that they are linguistically very close to another group, the Tombidi, mainly settled in the village of R\u00e9b\u00e9, near Malinga, over 300 kilometers away from the Lake Akele\u2019s current territory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Their linguistic proximity indicated that the separation between these groups occurred three or four centuries ago.
