May 27, 2011: abstracts submission deadline for conference entitled « Sustainable data from digital research: Humanities perspectives on digital scholarship », to be held in December 2011, in Melbourne – Australia.
The main focus of the PARADISEC project (Pacific and Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures) is the digitisation of audio files originating from the Pacific region (Oceania, East and South-East Asia) and threatened with loss.
In particular it aims to make this data sustainable and accessible to future generations, and to support cultural renewal of the communities concerned.
This project is funded by the Australian Research Council and hosted by four Australian universities.
After a successful interdisciplinary conference in 2006, dedicated to fieldwork-generated digital data, PARADISEC will repeat the experience at the end of 2011.
This second conference entitled “Sustainable data from digital research: Humanities perspectives on digital scholarship” will be held at the University of Melbourne from December 12 to 14. It will be centered on the costs and benefits of digital technologies.
The scientific papers will cover a variety of issues related to conservation, accessibility (including to those who have little access to computers or the internet) and the use of digital data.
It is too late to send abstracts for proposals for the published volume of the conference; nevertheless abstracts for papers to be presented but not published can be submitted up until May 27.
Full papers for those who want them published in the peer-reviewed volume will be required by August 5th. The edited volume will be available as a book at the conference and will be hosted in an open-access online repository at Sydney University.
