This conference is organized jointly by the CRLAO (East Asian Linguistics Research Center) of the EHESS (Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales), the CNRS and the INALCO (National Institute on Eastern Languages and Civilisations).

Although most of the discussions will evolve around strong languages such like Mandarin, Japanese or Corean, these two days will also see weaker languages from this part of the world reflected upon:

- Thpong/Suay/Maleng, an extinct language from Cambodia, by Michel Ferlus

- The Tai-kadai language group (including 60 languages, some of which endangered) spoken in south-eastern China, Laos, Vietnam and Burma), by Laurent Sagart

- Tagal (from Malaysia and Indonesia), by Jean-Paul Potet

- etc.
